Learn the fundamentals of firearms safety by attending the Idaho NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course offered by Level 1 Firearms Safety and Training.

This is an introductory firearm safety and training course-
not a marksmanship class
! We recommend this class for those who are new to firearms. Extensive training and in-depth safety principles are stressed including the NRA rules for safe gun handling. The class offers instruction in all facets of firearm ownership including safe gun handling, pistol parts and components, operations, ammunition, range safety rules, shooting from the bench rest position, shooting stances, such as the Isosceles and Weaver positions. Graduates from this class meet most every state requirements for a carry and concealed license. Many states accept this training for their Concealed Carry License requirements. Students interested in the Idaho Enhanced Concealed Weapons License must attend a seperate class which focuses on legal concepts and advanced training skills. additional classes.

The class offers instruction in all facets of firearm ownership including safe gun handling, rifle parts, components, operations, ammunition, range safety rules, shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing, and kneeling positions. Continued opportunities for skill development and competition shooting is discussed. Minimum 22LR rifle is required; scope optional but strongly recommended.

Students who register for the Idaho NRA Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH) classes are interested in protecting their family, children, home, and surroundings. This is an

advanced training class

, therefore, we ask that all students have attended and successfully passed the

NRA Basics of Safety Shooting Class

. The classes take you beyond the normal operations of a firearm into when, when, and how you can use your firearm to protect your home and your family.

The class includes a review of the judicial use of a firearm in Idaho

This course extends the students knowledge beyond the

NRA Personal Protection in the Home

to include
ADVANCED

Personal Protection

strategies

Outside the Home

.
This is an extremely challenging but fun course which trains the student for topics which are specific to

personal protection

while away from home

.
Students who attend this class have the opportunity to train with their concealed hip holster or concealed purse, to be exposed to several variations of concealed carry techniques, and to practice presenting their weapon in a safe and efficient manner.The course covers multiple advanced concealed carry positions, stances, and strategies to prevail during a life threatening encounter.


The standard class offers opportunities to build on the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered to carry, store, and use a firearm efficiently outside the home. After the classroom instruction, students can plan on shooting approximately 200 rounds of ammunition at the range to practice new skills taught during the class as well as additional training for improving their target acquisition.
 

This class is for responsible adults who posses the defensive pistol skills presented in the

NRA Personal Protection in the Home course

. Students must understand the basic legal concepts related to the use of firearms in self defense. Students must know the and observe basic gun safety practices and principles that are used in defensive situations.

Advanced shooting stances from the two handed Isosceles, Weaver, sitting, prone, kneeling, and lying positions. Practice drills include, challenging target requirements, timed shooting events, low-light and dusk conditions, shooting from concealed cover, and using your back-up pistol are included. Limited discussion and demonstration on personal defense strategies to regain control of a stolen pistol and for close combat scenarios.

Complete Course Description: The NRA Range Safety Officer program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally-recognized range safety officer certification. NRA Range Safety Officers are people who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

Prerequisites:

Must be a NRA Certified Firearms Instructor! To become a Certified Firearms Instructor please see our web page: Become an Instructor.

This course does not encompass the functions and responsibilities of a Range Officer, who conducts NRA competition shooting events as defined by Rule 11.5 of the NRA Rule Books.
