NRA Basic Instructor Training BIT, sponsored by Level 1 Firearms Training, is a 6+ hour objective based prerequisite class required before taking instructor level courses. BIT is not a certification course, but rather a class on teaching methodology that will be applied to any NRA skill or discipline you become certified to teach in the future: Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Personal Protection in the Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, Home Firearm Safety, Range Safety, CCW, and Defensive Pistol. Training by certified guest instructors. This is the core class that goes over how to understand and translate lesson plans, proven teaching techniques, and how to meet NRA education standards to ensure consistency in training (non-shooting course). A welcome letter will be email within 48 hours of registration.
The NRA BIT course is valid for a two (2) year period. If you have attended a BIT within the last two (2) years, you are considered to be up-to-date with NRA training principles & techniques, and may attend NRA Instructor courses (see instructor course below for class descriptions and required prerequisites). If your last BIT course is over two (2) years old, you must attend a current BIT course prior to taking any instructor discipline.
IMPORTANT - You must provide your NRA BIT Completion Card or other proof of BIT, including instructor and date, before taking any instructor level course. If you cannot provide current credentials you will be required to take/retake the BIT course. There are NO EXCEPTIONS as per NRA policy. The NRA will not recognize any instructor level course you take if your BIT is not current. Your trainer will keep BIT information on file.
*It is highly recommended that Instructor Candidates be a member of the National Rifle Association prior to attending their NRA Instructor course. If you are not currently a member, please (Click Here) to join at a course discount.
