NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (ILT)

Course Overview

This is a beginner firearm safety class - not a marksmanship course!  We recommend this class for those who are new to firearm or have limited experience. Extensive training and in-depth safety principles are stressed including the NRA rules for safe gun handling. This objective-based class offers instruction in all facets of firearm ownership including safe gun handling, parts and components, operations, ammunition, maintenance, basic stances and shooting techniques.  Continued opportunities for skill development is discussed.   Firearm (or rental package), 50 round of factory ammunition, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude required.  Upon successfully passing this course, students will meet NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (ILT) national standards and will receive an official certificate of completion.  Approximately 8 hours including 50 rounds live fire training.

NRA Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH)

Course Overview

Students who register for the NRA Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH) class are interested in protecting their family, home, and surroundings. This is an advanced concept course.  It is required that all students have attended and successfully passed the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Class. This objective based class take you beyond the normal operations of a firearm into when and how you can use your firearm to protect your residence, creating a "safe room", strategies for personal defense, how to discourage thieves, preventing unauthorized use of home firearm, controlling residential confrontations, home defense laws, shooting techniques for accuracy, and interacting with the police after an incident.  Handgun, 100 round of factory ammunition, eye & ear protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude required.  Upon successfully passing this course, students will meet NRA Personal Protection in the Home national standards and will receive an official certificate of completion.  Approximately 8 hours including live fire training.

The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) certification program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally-recognized range safety officer certification.  NRA Range Safety Officers possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.  This includes conducting a range inspections, enforce range rules, clear stoppages and malfunctions, conduct safety briefings, and understand and control emergency procedures.  Students must pass their RSO Exam with a 90% or better in order to earn their official NRA credential rating.  Approximately 9 hours (non-shooting course).

Course Overview

This intermediate class is for those who have taken an entry level pistol class and are ready to take their skills to the next level. Shooting with confidence is a full day class where students build upon existing basic pistol concepts and abilities.  Increase confidence and improve shooting skills through advanced training techniques and challenging drills. Students who complete this course will shoot an average of 50% more accurately and will be prepared to take advanced courses like Pistol 3: Personal Defensive class.

This class is for those who have taken Pistol 1: Basic Pistol or NRA Basics of Pistol, as well as the Pistol 2: Shooting with Confidence courses. Due to safety issues you must have completed both classes in order to participate in this course; no exceptions will be extended; proof of completion is required!

 

This advanced course is focused on the experienced pistol student and goes BEYOND the "Basics".  Learn how to defend yourself more efficiently during a defensive encounter!  Transition quickly and easily from different stances for accur rapid and accurat shooting results.  Introduction to shooting "on-the-move" and defensive options.  Two and one handed speed reloading.  Review of current laws on judicial use of a firearm (consult an attorney for legal interpretation of the law). 

 

Part 1In-depth skill development on how to present and use your firearm for defense. Two and one handed tactical reloading is practiced.

 

Part 2: Done entirely at the range, this portion of the course was designed to prepare and improve your chances for surviving during a life threatening situation.

This class is for advanced students who have attended the AR-15  Level 1: FUNdamentals and AR-15 Level 2: Skill Development courses.  The course builds on your basic and intermediate rifle knowledge and skills to encompass advanced personal defense strategies,  Students are introduced to the judicial use of an AR-15 rifle for home and personal defense. An overview of current laws are discussed and additional advanced shooting techniques are introduced.  For safety purposes, the Beginner and Intermediate AR-15 class must be attended prior to attending this course -  there are no exceptions.  Review of current laws on judicial use of a firearm in the home (consult an attorney for legal interpretation of the law).
